Louisville Elementary School nurse Sue Gronow received a surprise honor on Jan. 22nd as she was informed she had won 1st Runnerup as Coach of the Year in the national organization Girls on the Run (GOTR). Girls On The Run is a non-profit program for girls from 3rd through 8th grade, and the mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experienced-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. The girls meet for 20 sessions over 10 weeks in the spring preparing for a 5K race. But it’s more than running, life lessons are learned. “Running is not the main purpose,” said Gronow. “In fact, some girls just walk the 5K. We want to help girls develop a positive self-image and develop a healthy lifestyle.” “I was shocked when I got this award.”
